Collaboration in Comics | Local Author Mat Heagerty

Join us at the library for a Collaboration in Comics with graphic novel author Mat Heagerty on Saturday, July 26 at 10am.
Mat walks the group through the basic process of how he gets his graphic novels made, from conception, to pitch, to finished book! He will also answer the age-old question:
“If you don’t draw the graphic novel, what do you do?” We will look at different jobs people can have in graphic novel publishing and learn how being open to collaboration leads to the best book possible!
In this interactive program, kids will work together to create a single panel comic. Each kid will have a chance to do each of four jobs: create a title, draw line art, color, and write dialogue. At the end, there are some funny, unique comics that could have never come from just one person.
We’ll end our session with a Q&A and book signing. Kids are encouraged to prepare questions before the session.
Recommended for grades 3-6

About the Author:
Mat Heagerty super happily lives in Vermont with his best buds/family. He writes graphic novels like ‘Lumberjackula’, ‘Martian Ghost Centaur’, ‘Unplugged and Unpopular’ and the forthcoming ‘Indoor Kid’. Mat is dyslexic, and struggled a bunch in school; now he travels the country talking to elementary and middle school students about the strengths of learning disabilities. During the 2023-2024 school year Mat and his family bought an RV and traveled all across the U.S. It was life-changingly amazing!
