Our policies are designed to address the needs of our patrons and encourage use of our collection.

Borrowing Policies

Renewals

  • Materials may be renewed twice after the initial loan period (unless otherwise noted).
  • Borrowers cannot renew library materials if another patron has reserved them.
  • If an item is overdue and another borrower requests it, a phone call or email may be sent to request that the item is returned.

Overdue Materials

  • The library does not charge overdue fines but will accept voluntary contributions to the “Donation Jar” located on the circulation desk.
  • Overdue notices are automatically generated by our Integrated Library System (ILS), Apollo, in the form of friendly email reminders.
  • If patrons fail to return their materials to the library in a timely manner, they may be blocked from borrowing new items until their overdue items are returned.

Lost or Damaged Materials

  • Patrons are responsible for the cost to repair or replace items damaged or lost under their care. Exceptions can be made if it is determined that the material is too old or outdated to be worth the cost of replacement.
  • Parents or guardians are responsible for related fines or charges incurred by their minor children.

Non-Resident Cards

  • Library cards are free to all Newfields residents and employees.
  • Non-residents who wish to borrow materials from our library must pay a $40.00 fee per year.
  • Non-residents who work in Newfields are allowed library privileges free of charge. Must provide proof of local employment along with your ID.

All library programs and events, as well as use of in-library services during our regular hours are open to the public, free of charge unless otherwise stated.
